Balzer + Bray
Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.
Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.
Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.
Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.
Why I Read This:
Review Copy Cleanup.
It's been a while since I've read a book where the character has some kind of paranomal/supernatural ability, and I forgot just how fun they can be. After reading through a slew of books that were good but not great, I needed something like Slide to get me really excited about books again. Only Slide doesn't just have a protaganist with a paranormal ability, there's also the added element of - murder mystery. Dun dun dunnnn!
I had so much fun with this book. The murder mystery would have been enough to hold my attention but then Jill Hathaway had to go and add a girl who can slide into other people's bodies and see what they are doing just by touching something they've touched. And oh yeah, how about add the new hot kid that buys her jelly doughnuts and she's totally falling in love with. A dad who has secrets of his own - is it a stalker, a girlfriend, or something else entirely. A best friend she's terrified might be the killer. A teacher who may have slept with the students that are dropping dead like fleas. And a sister who is falling apart at the seams because all her friends are committing suicide. At least that's what the killer is making everyone believe about the deaths. Only Vee knows that's not true because she experienced one of the murders first hand by slipping into the murderer.
What a crazy story! I couldn't have asked for more. There were so many characters who could have been the murderer and yet I had no clue even up until the end who it could have been. I couldn't stop reading because I wanted to find out who did it.
Slide satisfied so many of my needs. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and I've already added it to my TBR!
I received a free e-copy of the book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
